More than 70 people turned out on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to discuss ways to improve the health and well-being of Central Providence over the next 10 years.
Participants – partners from the Central Providence Collaborative, businesses, and residents – reviewed and offered amendments to a plan developed under the guidance of consulting group Greater Good Studio and Central Providence Opportunities: A Health Equity Zone.
ONE Neighborhood Builders is the backbone agency of CPO-HEZ.
The plan, called the “Central Providence Roadmap,” aims to achieve one over-arching goal: “All residents of Central Providence will live healthy, stable lives and be empowered to impact the conditions of their community.”
It is based on the statement that the community-level conditions are rooted in structural racism, resulting in poverty, inequitable access to quality education and jobs, has out of reach or unsafe housing, and other issues that impede families and individuals from living healthy, economically stable lives.
The process is designed to address key goals and beliefs about the future of Central Providence:
- That everyone should have a stable and affordable place to live.
- That everyone should have access to the resources they need to achieve health and wellness.
- That every child should be ready to learn.
- That everyone who wants to start their own business has the opportunity to do so.
- That everyone has access to dignified, sufficient, and sustainable employment.
- That everyone is equipped and empowered to take action affecting change in their community.
Facilitators from ONE|NB guided the group discussions, and the results will guide the next phase of the roadmap planning before the next session, slated for January.
