In Bill Bartholomew’s podcast, “Special Report: Rhode Island’s Housing Crisis Part 1,” Bill brings attention to the pressing issue of housing affordability in Rhode Island.

His expert panel, including Jennifer Hawkins (President/Executive Director, ONE Neighborhood Builders) and Karen Ann Santilli (CEO, Crossroads RI), highlighted the need for housing at all levels and the importance of rental subsidies for extremely low-income households facing homelessness.

Hawkins noted it is essential to address the housing crisis through increasing the supply of housing, and that it is also crucial to acknowledge that for those at the lowest level of the income spectrum, rental subsidies are needed. Without subsidies, they will not be able to afford the costs associated with maintaining a quality apartment. We must recognize this “absolute truth” and fulfill our obligation to provide rental subsidies to ensure of ensuring that everyone has access to quality housing, she said.
