EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Construction has officially kicked off on a new housing complex in East Providence.

Community members and city leaders gathered Monday morning for a groundbreaking at the future site of Center City Apartments (CCA) on Taunton Avenue.

Phase 1 of the project includes the first 95 apartments of the planned 144-unit development, which involves constructing new four-story building and renovating an existing four-story building.

According to developer One Neighborhood Builders, 40% of the units will be reserved for low- to moderate-income households. CCA will also include on-site offices for “wrap-around supportive services” from three nonprofit providers: Crossroads Rhode Island, Family Service of Rhode Island and Foster Forward.

Phase 1 is expected to be completed by January 2027. The developer said the timeline for Phase 2 will depend on funding from RI Housing.
