ONE Neighborhood Builders To Hold Fresh Friday on Community Organizing Efforts in Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI – ONE Neighborhood Builders (ONE|NB), one of the state’s leading community development corporations, is hosting a virtual event and panel discussion on community organizing efforts in Providence on Friday, December 1, from 8:45-9:30 AM. The event is a part of ONE|NB’s Fresh Fridays, a monthly gathering for practitioners, community members, and policymakers interested in community development.
This month’s Fresh Friday will feature local community organizers and community members with experience organizing within nonprofit organizations. The panel and discussion will center on informing individuals on the best practices for community organizing, being an advocate for your community, and how you can support community organizing in your role at a nonprofit and as a community member.
ONE|NB’s Community Organizer for Central Providence Opportunities, Eloi Rodas, will be one of the panelists featured this Friday. Central Providence Opportunities: A Health Equity Zone (CPO-HEZ) is a place-based collective impact initiative working toward greater health and economic equity within Central Providence.
Rodas joined ONE|NB in August after moving from Guatemala. Rodas comes to ONE|NB with extensive knowledge of best practices for community organizing from his personal and professional experiences, with specific expertise on how individuals who work for nonprofit organizations can best support community organizing in their role.
“Organizing is a conduit for community engagement and policy influence, one that nonprofits can and should implement to foster social change. It is also a powerful strategy to address many of the challenges we face in low-engagement areas where distrust or apathy persists. Ultimately, elevating marginalized voices is a crucial step in transitioning from charity to justice,” said Eloi Rodas, ONE|NB’s Community Organizer for Central Providence Opportunities.
Rodas will be joined on this Friday’s panel by;
- Michelle Ziobrowski, Resident Advisory Council member, ONE Central Providence
- María José Gutierrez, New Voices/Nuevas Voces Co-Facilitator, Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council
- Miosotis Alsina, Community Programs Director, Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council
- Pedro Espinal, Olneyville Resilience Hub Manager, Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council
The event is open to the public and will have live captioning available in several languages, including English and Spanish.
