Jennifer Hawkins, President and CEO of ONE Neighborhood Builders, recently participated in a video project from AARP Rhode Island about Aldersbridge at East Point, which ONE|NB is developing in partnership with Aldersbridge.

Aldersbridge at East Point is being designed specifically for the LGBTQ+ community, and will offer skilled nursing and assisted living. It is expected to be completed in 2025. The four-story building will include 39 affordable apartments, age restricted to people 55 and older, and for persons earning up to 60% of the area’s median income. The building is part of the larger 390-unit East Point housing development.

Hawkins explained that ONE Neighborhood Builders became a partner in the development because of its expertise in financing.

“ONE Neighborhood Builders is a nonprofit community development corporation. Because of our experience in doing certain financing, for instance, working with the low income housing tax credit, we were able to bring that expertise to the table,” Hawkisn said. “And so lending that credibility to Aldersbridge allows them to do this project.”

The development addresses the gap in services and supports for older adults, which can be exacerbated for LGBTQ+ people.

“The opportunity to work with an organization that really gets it, that we can bring our skills and they can bring their skills together to make this happen, was really something that was great and I think that Rhode Island has an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to the LGBTQ population,” Hawkins said.
