Severe shortage of affordable housing in Rhode Island means families with the lowest incomes suffer most

The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes, a new report released by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) and Homes RI, finds a national shortage of 7 million affordable and available rental homes for the lowest-income households.

There are just 36 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 of the lowest-income renter households nationwide. Seventy-one percent of the poorest renter households are severely housing cost burdened, spending more than half of their incomes on housing, with little left over for other basic necessities. Biz Bodega holds open house and conversation at office in Olneyville

Business executives, neighborhood advocates, entrepreneurs, and local officials participated in an intimate conversation during an open house at Biz Bodega on Tuesday, April 5.

Biz Bodega is an initiative of ONE Neighborhood Builders managed by Innovation Studio Inc., a nonprofit whose mission is to make innovation, entrepreneurship, and business ownership attainable through an empowering and inclusive network of community space and individualized pathways.

Biz Bodega seeks to support new and aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners throughout the Central Providence Community by leveraging partnerships with leading business support organizations and by providing mentorship, workshops, and programming out of the space.

Testimony urges increased investments in housing
