Public Restrooms Open at Providence’s Merino Park Thanks to Participatory Budgeting Initiative Led by One Neighborhood Builders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 17, 2025 Providence, RI—One Neighborhood Builders (ONB), one of the state’s leading nonprofit affordable housing developers and community development corporations, in partnership with the City of Providence Parks Department, held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of public restrooms in the city’s Merino Park. The installation of public restrooms at the park is a direct response to a community identified need during the Nine Neighborhood Fund participatory budgeting initiative led by ONB’s Central Providence Unidos, a Health Equity Zone and place-based initiative focused on increasing economic mobility and health equity in the nine neighborhoods...

Fresh Fridays: Examining Commercial & Residential Tenant Unions

This month’s Fresh Fridays featured a lively conversation that was focused on the people and organizations who are working on commercial and residential tenant organizing in Rhode Island.
One Neighborhood Builders was joined by Mel Potter, Emily Harrington, and Shana Crandell, and facilitated a discussion that level-set the conversation with an overview of what a tenant union is, highlighted the work of several of Rhode Island’s commercial and residential tenant unions, and discussed the future of this organizing work.

Supporters Can Testify in Support of the Legislation  The Rhode Island House Health & Human Services Committee is scheduled to hear testimony on House Bill 5849, the Rhode Island Equity Zone Act, on Thursday, March 27 at the Rise of the House, typically around 4:30 pm, in the House Lounge.
