CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — Builders and politicians celebrated the groundbreaking a new affordable housing development in Central Falls Friday morning.
“Broad Street Homes,” located next to Central Falls City Hall, will be built on the site of an old Dunkin Donuts.
The project will cost developers One Neighborhood Builders upwards of $26 million to build, which was secured partly through a federal earmark.
When completed, the four-story building will include 46 housing units for low-income families in Central Falls.
“We need housing. Every time my office gets calls from individuals, they’re looking for housing. We know that the price right now of rent is almost unaffordable, so we have to make sure that we continue to build more housing,” Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos said

The project, which is the first development by One Neighborhood Builders within the city, includes a new four-story building at 524 Broad St. and reusing a former police station and courthouse building at 511 Broad St. In total, the project will create 46 affordable housing units to low-income households earning less than 60% of the area median income.
