Rochelle Lee
Chair
Rochelle Lee, long time resident of Elmwood, works to support community engagement, anti-poverty and social justice initiatives in ways that intersect with her long time career as an educator and urban planner.
Her background includes managing a variety of outreach programs, working in human services, public education, research, developing and managing economic investment and affordable housing projects.
In that capacity, she has worked with non-profit organizations throughout the City and state, as well as Massachusetts and Connecticut and supports a range of grassroots and mutual aid initiatives.
Her personal interests include photography, travel, African American History and Art, advocacy on behalf of Afro centric health and wellness, equity and civil rights projects.
She is an advocate for civic education, protecting civil rights, environmental justice, health equity, neighborhood resources such as libraries, access to public transit and broadening resources to elevate sectors in urban agriculture.
She is a volunteer board member of a range of community organizations dedicated to creating and expanding opportunities to influence public policy, advance community-led campaigns and propose reforms to meet the basic needs of people experiencing poverty.
Currently, Rochelle serves as a Commissioner of the Providence Board of Canvassers and Registration and RI Human Rights Commission. She serves as Board Chair of the Southside Community Land Trust, Vice Chair of the RI Coalition of Black Women and a Board member of Common Cause RI, Native Green, Providence Eye, Providence Preservation Society, Providence Revolving Fund, several regional non-profits and resident driven community initiatives.
Rochelle’s academic degrees include a bachelor degree with honors from the University of Massachusetts, a Masters degree in African American Studies from Boston University and a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Relevant professional credentials include certifications in Asset and Property Management, real estate development and finance.
She enjoys photography, travel, African American and world history, teaching, promoting civic education and sharing time with family, friends and neighbors.
